Long Time No Song. . .

It’s been far too long since I’ve made a post here but thanks to everyone for keeping up the following on soundcloud and twitter. My latest single was released last week and is already climbing the charts at Beatport. Thanks to everyone for the support and if you haven’t picked up a copy yet please do. Your support means everything to me…

And there have been some very flattering write-ups appearing on the web over the last week. Here are some of my top picks. Thanks to those involved and if you take a look at these you will find a free tune (my Rihedit of ‘Where Have You Been’ by Rihanna) ready for you to download and get your booty shaking to! And a free DJ mix I did exclusively for BreakzLinkz.

New Rebel Game (Radballs)

Thanks to the brilliance of a particular game I’ve discovered (on iOS) I have decided to give some space to the subject of video games. I guess I’m a real fan of games, not quite a geek in the way I am about, say, film but I’m definitely passionate about good games, whether they be huge in scope, like Just Cause 2 (PS3) or small and simple, like Tiny Wings (iOS), I’ll always find time to play. At this point I feel the need to point out that I’m not into those games that require you to put on a headset and run around virtual battlefields, shouting obscenities into your microphone at other people all over the globe. You can keep those games and that experience for yourself, I’m sure it’s a lot of fun but it kinda leaves me cold.

So. . . Let’s talk about RADBALLS! Is this the best iOS game ever?

This is an amazing little gem of a game. Controls are simple and yet, after a first play (which might keep you at it or hours I warn you!) you’ll want to learn from the tips and secrets to go deeper into the rabbit hole and beat those harder levels!

I’ve always loved rhythm-based games and this is the absolute best of that genre whilst breaking out to be one of the most original and addictive puzzlers since Tetris!

The overall design of this game is outstanding. The creator, Neil Voss manages to pull together the holy trinity of ingenuity, style and music into a seamless universe of beat-driven, fun-filled action. It’s no surprise that his credentials read so well. You can follow him on twitter by clicking here.

It’s a no-brainer. Just grab it. People will be talking about this like Angry Birds soon. It’s so much better than those pissed-off nest-dwellers!

And remember… “Don’t drag the Radballs, flick them for best results!”

Score: 5/5

You can find out more about Radballs on the official site.

Rebel Tune – Clock Opera’s – Lesson No.7

This is the first tune I’m sharing where it’s simply not enough to talk about one track but instead I’m (maybe) introducing you to two! This is a band that I’ve been following over 2011 and they fill me with such excitement (for new music, for their future, for creative celebration) that I can’t write about ‘Lesson No.7′ and not mention ‘Belongings’ too.

My close friend Ryan first told me about the band (Andy West is an old friend) and the first thing I heard (and saw) was ‘Belongings’. Check out the video below and see if you’re sold… Mixing haunting, soulful vocals with glitchy, samples of keys and bells (or perhaps other sounds made to sound as such), the song is instantly accessible and simultaneously inventive and unique-sounding.
The video was shot, edited and born from the huge talent that is Andy West, who just happens to play bass (among other things) in the band. From my brief meetings with him he’s a top guy too, just to add to all that talent (some people have it all!).

Clock Opera’s front-man is Guy Connelly, responsible for a lot of the production on the tracks and provider of some of the most beautiful vocals I’ve heard since Thom Yorke. But like all bands, it’s about all of the band-members coming together to form something that transcends any individual and and last Thursday I saw them do just that during their gig at Electrowerkz (Angel, Islington). The show was incredible and some of the crowd cheering and lyric-chanting made me feel at times like I was watching a band that were well-established and playing hits form their back-catalog to expectant fans. Finishing their set with an (apparently rare, judging by Guy’s comments to the crowd) encore, featuring their new song ‘Fail Better’, I can honestly say that I was left longing for more and I’m counting the days until their debut album finally hits shelves next year.

The band: Dan Armstrong | Andy West | Guy Connelly | Che Albrighton
